coachella set list...
Posted by krux on Monday May 7, 2007 @ 10:06pm

posted the pictures and video from coachella. my camera was not designed to accurately pick up bass 15 to 20 feet from a bank of speakers the size of your living room, so the audio quality is crap. ::shrug::

here is the list of bands I ended up catching while at coachella...

friday

satellite party
david guetta
arctic monkeys
peaches
felix da housecat
benny benassi
interpol
sonic youth
bjork
dj shadow

got to the show a little late so I missed tokyo police club, though I did hear the last song they did while I was waiting in the ticket line. lots of hot bouncy chicks in the dj area, which I must say was pretty cool. I proceeded to text jeff while he rebuilt exchange servers. heh heh..

highlights of friday were dj shadow and interpol. peaches sucked major ass, and we left after one song. bjork was good, but I don't really get the need to focus video to show the color video mixer controls during the entire concert. yes they are cool looking. we get it. how about some video of the people on the stage perhaps?

saturday

fountains of wayne
dj heather
the new pornographers
the decemberists
the arcade fire
rhcp
gotan project

awesome music on saturday. also really enjoyed fountains of wayne. rhcp was ok, but then I'd never actually pay money to see rhcp, since they're not really my thing. the new pornographers, the decemberists, the arcade fire, and gotan project were all awesome.

sunday

kid beyond
tapes n tapes
trent cantrelle
junior boys
kaiser chiefs
placebo
crowded house
air
ratatat
vnv nation

kid beyond's stuff was really cool. tapes n tapes wasn't that great. trent cantrelle ended up being a damn good DJ. loved kaiser chiefs. it took awhile into placebo's set before I even recognized a song by them. crowded house was just bad. air was good, but they were also very very late so I only managed to catch a few songs. but by far the highlight of sunday was ratatat and vnv nation. I scored a guitar pick from ratatat.

No RATM? You fucking faggot.

You could stick a sandwich in it and call it a lunch box,
but that doesn't make it any less of a purse. -krux

RATM isn't a band I ever really listened to, and certainly isn't a band I would ever pay to go see. Also with the way the lineup works with five stages you run into conflicts.

So given the choice between seeing RATM, or seeing VNV Nation and Ratatat... well it's not really a choice. The whole reason I bought the Coachella tickets in the first place was because The Arcade Fire, Ratatat, and VNV Nation were all playing. There was no way in hell I was missing those bands. And all three put on incredible shows.

I knew there was something wrong with you.

But come on... I could see RATM where I'm so far from the stage they look like ants. The only way you were getting anywhere close is if you were there about two bands before, and you would have to sit around doing nothing but being crushed by people while you were waiting for set changes. Fuck that. I chose to be front stage at VNV Nation. That plan just worked out perfrectly, since VNV was playing right after and at the same stage as Ratatat. Ratatat was just phenomenal to see live. If you haven't already give them a listen.
